Your own dino park
ROAR APPEAL: The dinosaurs in THE only thing better than running your own theme park has to be running your own theme park full of dinosaurs.
Anyone who has seen one of the films has likely secretly wanted to build their own theme park and fill it full of extinct megafauna because there’s no way that could possibly turn out badly, right? developed by Frontier and released are grown in labs, hatched from viable genomes. on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on July 3, is the game you’ve been waiting for in that regard.
As the name suggests, it’s an officially licensed
game, and even features the voice talents of Jeff Goldblum as Dr Ian Malcolm, Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire Dearing and BD Wong as Dr Henry Wu.
If you’ve played a theme park builder before you’ve got the basic idea already – but there are a few surprises here as well. There are three corporate sectors within the park vying for your attention – science, entertainment and security.
The head of science wants you to undertake lots of tasks that involve messing with the dinosaur’s DNA, the entertainment head wants bums on seats and if that means organising dinosaur fights then so be it, and the head of security is clearly angling towards eventually attaching laser guns.
The dialogue from your monomaniacal section heads is very well done indeed, as are Jeff Goldblum’s deadpan observations about how spectacularly pear-shaped whatever you were doing will invariably become.
The dinosaurs themselves are very detailed indeed.
The version I played was on PlayStation 4 and I was pleasantly surprised how well the controls work.
One big tick in the game’s box is that it’s something you can play with the kids around.
This is an important consideration for gamers with small children, and the combination of “build a park” and “learn about all the different dinosaurs” is an appealing one. There are no concerns about excessive violence, inappropriate language or adult themes.
While it feels like it could have done with a bit more time in the incubator,
is generally a decent game.
