It wasn’t Malanda Show weekend weather at Millaa Millaa for the Malanda RSL/Falls Teahouse monthly medal combined with the FOCUS: Hayden Gulliver lining up a putt during the FNQ Golf Championsh­ips at Gordonvale. Malanda Pharmacy Stableford competitio­n. Beautiful blue skies greeted the field but the fairways were still damp from recent rain. Getting ready for the upcoming seniors comp, the old Silver Fox rolled back the clock to break 80 for a strong win in both formats with a net 62 and 43 points from Graham Suffield 2nd with 65 and 40 then Bob Collyer 67 and 38. Ladies winner was Marg Azar with a narrow win over Alicia English. Nearest the Pins were 1/10 Ashley Healy, 5/14 and 9/18 Graham Murray and Alicia claiming 9/18 for the Ladies. Club match play championsh­ips also started with Ash holding his nerve to claim a 1 up win on the last, Ruthless Richard the defending champion continuing his match play form and GG thumping Happy whose game on the back nine melted down worse than the Malanda Millaa Millaa road. Congratula­tions to the winners. Next week’s comp see the 2nd round of the Tableland Challenge at Mt Garnet. Royal Millaa Millaa has a strong lead already, lets hope a strong turnout will consolidat­e that position. July monthly medal was played over the weekend. Junior Prudence Wright has played well again to win the Medal with a nett 75. The Barron Valley Hotel Gross Winner was Tarnia Wright on 94. Our lil Miss Consistenc­y- Prudence had also participat­ed in junior golf competitio­ns last week at Half Moon Bay & Cairns Golf Clubs; both days she was the Net Winner. Warwick Howarth from Millaa Millaa Golf Club took out the B Grade Gross. Darren Cripps from Half Moon Bay Golf Club took out the C Grade. Mid-Amateur was taken out by Brad Dwyer from Gordonvale Golf Club. Phil Henricks from Cairns Golf Club took out the Seniors. Saxonn Capilos also from Cairns Golf Club took out the Juniors. 2018 Champion of Champion Winners. Inter Club Teams Events was taken out by Peter Dalziel, Greg Drabsch and Tony Beck from Gordonvale GC. Cairns Golf World monthly medal: Saturday results (Tee off .730am and noon). It was great to see the weather ease up for the monthly medal. Almost 30 players ventured out the morning groups looked to have the best of the weather conditions. Great rounds in the morning by Andrew Rose and Joel Suanders had the club house lead at 68 nett. As well as a almost a hole in one by Lance Masina (2 inches from the hole) on the 2nd hole. These scores looked like they would hold for the day as the rain come into play for the afternoon groups. Paul Tattam was the best of the men for the day with a great round of 75 off the stick & 66 nett. Paul had the club house lead for 20 mins as Deb Smith continued her great Club Championsh­ip form with her best round to date of 83 off the stick & 64 nett! Congratula­tions Deb for a great round. FNQ Junior Golf Competitio­n July 15, tee off 10am. This Sunday will see the first junior competitio­n held at the Innisfail Golf Club for some years. Competitor­s from our region will be coming to our course to compete for prizes sponsored by Innisfail Junior Golf, Innisfail Golf Club & Top End Apps.
