John (texts, 10/7) claims record rainfall in one area of Japan proves coal is to blame. Claims of record heat, cold, rain and drought are made every day. No scientific link to coal has ever been established. Higgs, Tolga Tax scammers (CP, 9/7) are nowhere near as costly as green scammers. Europe is realising that renewables can’t run an electrical grid but our government has been totally conned and is doubling down on them. Miss T, Tolga Three Lions will need to overcome Croatia first, a far classier team at that. Football Fanatic, Edmonton Richard, Palm Cove (texts, 10/7) is spot on. Walk through either Cairns Central, Smithfield or Earlville shopping centres and you will find that every shop has a sale or reduced price sign. Also, it is July, check out how many restaurants are half full, let alone full. Six million airport passengers by 2028. Really? Cairns only gets two million tourists now. Great con by the so-called powers to be. Margaret, Cairns The Italian Social & Dance Club says arrivederci after 26 years of fun and has closed its doors. Thanks for the good times cause I like eating Italian food (pizza). Janelle, Woree Static synchronous compensators, as installed at Mossman recently (CP 9/7), allow two-way electrical flow. They are needed because of solar panels. They are a major part of the cost of “gold-plating the grid” and are just one of the extra costs in your bill from “cheap renewables”. Mic, Cairns To the detractors (i.e those who dislike it and want to sell it) of the ABC. Please note that the ABC is now placed number 7 in the list of Australia’s most trusted brands. This is much higher than any political organisation and any of the other print or electronic media organisations. Geoff, Westcourt The State Government is always advising the public how committed they are to road safety, hence the abundance of all types of vehicles parked at the sides of the road sporting speed detection cameras inside of them, in many cases where the speed limit should be increased. There is more to road safety than “One K over is a Killer”. David the cabbie, Woree Lenore Evans (letters, 10/7). Yes, traffic will improve but that is due to lack of usage. Take Cairns Central out and no one would use McLeod St just like no one drives through Lake St. Imagine how many would come to CBD if you took out Commonwealth Bank and Woolworths. Again council and a few radicals have no idea for what the letters CBD stand for. Tony, Cairns
