Prices stay steady in latest cattle sale

PRICES continue to remain steady at the Mareeba Combined Agents Cattle sales.

Last Friday, at the Combined Agents Special Store Sale at Mareeba, there were 1607 head of cattle up for auction.

Mareeba Landmark Jack Henshaw auctioneer said that cattle sold very well last Friday.

However prices were average at yesterday’s sale.

“Friday’s sale was very good. There was a large yarding of store cattle,” he said.

“We had 117 Southedge Daintree Pastoral Company steers which averaged $241c/ kg at about 335kg. They came back at $808 each.

“Prices were up with 200-300kg weaner steers topping at an average of 260c/kg.

“Weaner heifers topped at 206c/kg.”

He said there was a large amount of buyers at the sales which helped drive prices up.

The next special store sale will be August 17 starting at 10am.

At yesterday’s sale 601 head were auctioned.

Numbers improved by 446 head on the previous week.

Buyers were presented with some larger lines of northern cows and bulls.

Local trade heifers remained firm but were 5c/kg cheaper while cows were back 15c/kg on last weeks top of 185c/kg.

Slaughter ox’s gained 14c/ kg, cows gained 3c/kg for a single cow, while bulls gained 11 c/kg for the best on offer.
