Council donates

CAIRNS Regional Council has donated about $20,000 apiece to the Young Animal Protection Society and FNQ Rescues R Us following the Mayor’s Charity Golf Day at the Cairns Golf Club. The decision to donate the proceeds from the charity event followed a community backlash last year when YAPS revealed the council was not renewing a $35,000 annual funding package that had lasted more than 30 years. The council also waived dog registration fees for the region’s seven animal rehoming organisations.
