Disaster unit work begins
CONSTRUCTION has begun on the new $2.75 million Community Education, Training and Disaster Co-ordination Facility in Atherton.
Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe turned the first sod on the site yesterday, saying the benefits would be felt for years to come.
“As well as the obvious benefit of providing greater protection for the community, the multi-use facility will also be a focal point for educating and training in areas such as first aid skills and business continuity,” he said.
“On top of that, this project will have a positive impact on local families and the economy even before it opens, with the construction set to support more than 12 local jobs.”
