Begg, L. Jennings, S. Sampson, G. Anderson. Butterfly shirts or whites. Thirty-one players enjoyed their social mixed bowls at West Cairns Bowls Club last Monday with pleasant conditions prevailing. Winners were Val Fallon, Dennis Evans and Massa Ichise. Playing numbers appear to be on the increase each week. We play under the covered roof each Monday regardless of any adverse weather conditions, starting at 1.30pm and ending at 4.30pm. Cards are called at 1.15pm and we request all players are present. Names for any visiting or local bowler can be left with selector Rosemary, phone 0409624623, or they can be recorded on the sheet available at the club. Closing time for advising nomination­s is 1pm. We also advise that the cost of the excellent afternoon tea provided will rise by $1, effective from next week. Club bowlers are advised that with the overall upgrading of the club facilities there has been a major clean-up of the bowls storage room. There are numerous lockers available for yearly hire at a nominal price and bowls seemingly abandoned on the floor or on shelves will eventually be disposed of. So, chat with the staff, obtain a key to a locker and ensure the security of your equipment. With the show public holiday on Friday, the club will open from noon until 7pm. First were Patty Pue, Rod Hooper, Mumbles. Second were Peter Angus, Andy Mattson, Kevin Porch. Once again the long-serving computer draw resulted in few teams winning both games. Take-away meals are available and the club features Ubet facilities. Social members and visitors are very welcome. On Thursday bragging rights went to R. Maguire, M. Achello, S. Clark after scoring the most points from the 30 bowlers on the green. Saturday saw an even better roll-up, with 32 players having an enjoyable afternoon. Numbers were boosted with 12 interstate players holidaying at Mission Beach joining us for a game. Winners on the day were J. Fossey, L. Burgess, S. Jones, J.O’Brien. Saturday morning saw S. The Mareeba Rodeo Associatio­n sponsored mixed triples had both greens full to capacity with 26 teams (78 players) competing in this popular event. The Rodeo Queen entrants were in attendance to assist with the distributi­on of prizes to the winning teams. Winners: J. Ciobo, A. Dennis and O. Kaye. Runners-up: L. Kattenberg, S. Gordois and D.
