Could someone please explain to many other confused Australians, and myself, how our National Rugby League competition is called the NRL. I and many others must have been elsewhere when we annexed New Zealand and made it a state of Australia. Maybe the NRL hierarchy can explain to our kids, who are missing out on a career because another nation is usurping our own kids’ future. Icarus, Atherton

Laura Jayes Opinion Piece ‘indigenous leaders in crisis call’ (CP 23/7) on the sad and appalling case of the rape of a two year old girl in Tennant Creek reports that a John Howard style intervention in that community will not be tolerated. This is not a race issue and whether you are ‘black, white or brindle’, for children who are vulnerable, their safety and well being cannot be compromised by bureaucratic red tape and paper shuffling. Remember when it was called global warming, that’s because it’s meant to be a world wide problem, that has turned out to be a lie.
