How can we vote for the reef to be among the Seven Wonders of Australia (CP 24/7) when our top reef scientists keep telling us its nearly dead? Mic, Cairns

So Coles is bagging the plastic bag, but at the same time giving out plastic toys in plastic bags. Not sure if this makes a lot of sense. Anyone else see the irony in this? AM, Cairns

Higgs (CP 24/7) is correct about the need for new dams for the Cairns and Tablelands regions. Sadly, after all the work done by the Cairns and former Mulgrave Shire councils in 1988, the Goss-led ALP went to the 1989 election with a “no new dams” platform (how short sighted was that?) and the universally praised Flaggy Creek dam project was abandoned. Most likely too hard to get that one back. Andy, Gordonvale

Totally agree, Carolyn, Mt Sheridan (CP 24/7). Teachers have enough to deal with without having to do more jobs that are the parents’ responsibility — already they check kids’ lunch boxes and a note goes home if there’s too much unhealthy food in there. Beth, Kanimbla

With totally inadequate parking spaces, council charging for the little parking that there is at all hours. Council wanting to restrict traffic flow by one laning and 40km/h limits. May as well put a fence around the whole CBD area to keep out the few unwanted locals who would like to support CBD businesses. Rocket, Mt Sheridan

I would like to say a huge thank you to the lady who stopped at the Cattana Wetlands on Saturday morning when my dog jumped from the ute. Her kindness, concern, hug and towel was greatly appreciated. PS, our dog is doing well also. Mitchell Family, Trinity Park

Re: Icarus about NRL and New Zealand (CP 24/7). New Zealand is written in the Australian Constitution as a seventh state anyway and will one day be joined economically and financially. Shane, Kanimbla

America! Trump and shooters. Going overseas? Russia is probably a safer holiday. Gazza, Cairns
