Dolphins monkey about in FNQ

- EMMA GREENWOOD

AUSTRALIA’S best swimmers have spent the past fortnight pushing through a torturous training regimen as they hone their preparations for the Pan Pacific Championships in Tokyo.

The Dolphins’ team of 32 jetted out for Japan on Saturday after taking the first steps towards the Tokyo Olympics in Cairns – a city that will become a second home for the team over the next two years heading into the 2020 Games.

But it was not all business in the Far North, with sports photographer Delly Carr catching our top swimmers monkeying around before their clash against the best swimmers from the US, Canada and Japan.

From Clyde Lewis embracing the fact he was named after the orang-utan in the series of Clint Eastwood movies by posing with a bunch of bananas, to Mack Horton getting behind the lens, distance queen Ariarne Titmus showing off her muscles and Mitch Larkin posing with chopsticks, this is Australia’s swimmers as you’ve never seen them.

Cate Campbell may be heading into a clash with Olympic and world champion Simone Manuel at the Pan Pacs but the world shortcourse record-holder looks carefree in front of Carr.

Sprinter Shayna Jack (pictured) was also involved.

But Carr also captured Campbell in pain after completing an effort set in full race suit at the Tobruk Pool.

“It hasn’t all been sunshine and turtles up here in Cairns,” Campbell wrote on Instagram after also posting a picture of herself with a turtle.
