Students on Japan tour
OVER the winter school break, a group of teachers and students from St Monica’s College travelled to Japan in search of a cultural experience. The tour spanned 14 days, during which the group visited Tokyo and its surrounds, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Osaka. The trip allowed the group to take part in a kimono dressing, participate in a tea ceremony and while visiting Hiroshima gain some sense of the trauma caused by the 1945 atomic bomb blast.

Welshman conquers France
GERAINT Thomas was in dreamland yesterday, becoming the first Welshman to win the Tour de France. Eleven years after finishing 140th in his debut Tour, Thomas was standing on the Champs Elysees podium as the champion of the world’s biggest bike race. Thomas, who on Saturday broke down in tears during a TV interview, this time struggled to remember his teammates’ names, momentarily forgot to thank his wife and finished with a mic drop. — Page 35
