PRIDE PUNISH THE CAPRAS
THE Northern Pride’s barnstorming Colts have made short work of CQ Capras piling on the first seven tries of the match at Stan Williams Park to run away comprehensive 48-16 winners at the weekend.
With the temperature reaching 28C on Saturday afternoon, the Pride started in similar fashion to their previous match against the Sun- shine Coast Falcons, leading 32-nil at the break. Normanton backrower Terrence CaseyDouglas set the tone early, racking up a hat-trick in the first 22 minutes while imposing himself defensively with several strong tackles.
Coach Dave Scott was full of praise for the teenager who moved to Cairns as a trial player during the preseason.
“Terrence was at Redcliffe last year and didn’t play much,” Scott said. “He’s been one of our finds of the year and we’re so pleased for him because he is a great kid.
“He’s been unlucky to get a couple of suspensions and injuries through the year but he’s starting to make his mark.”
With finals just three rounds away, Scott is hopeful the Pride can hold on to second place, potentially setting up a mouth-watering matchup with Townsville Blackhawks in the second week of finals.
“It’s a good match-up and our boys always lift for that game,” Scott said.
“They’ll probably finish first and I think we’d relish the opportunity to face them again.
“We really want to finish top two and get that second chance because you don’t want to have to play in Brisbane in a sudden death match in the first week of the finals.”
