WHAT THEY SAID AT CANNON PARK

-

Race 1 — QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap (950m) Roth’N’ Bell for trainer Ray Moller and jockey Kerry Rockett “He is only learning his trade, he will be a better horse next year,” Moller said. “This is only the tip of the iceberg, I think.”

Race 2 — Maiden Plate (1250m) Lord Archer for trainer Roy Chillemi and jockey Stephen Wilson “We had to get him going from out wide,” Chillemi said. “He has got more ability than what he showed today and if the penny drops, he should win a few races in a row.”

Race 3 — Class 4 Handicap (950m) Our Atom for trainer Janel Ryan and jockey Robert Thompson “It was a good win,” Ryan said. “He is only a little horse but he must have a huge heart because he has now won four races for me. “It is great to win a race at Cairns Jockey Club.”

Race 4 — Class 2 Handicap (1250m) Little Stryker for trainer Renee Schluenz and jockey Wanderson D’Avila “That was an awesome win,” Schluenz said. “That is my first Cairns Carnival winner.”

Race 5 — Class 5 Handicap

(1250m) Snowy Moet for Stephen Massingham and jockey Justin Stanley “He is a good horse,” Massingham said. “Justin put him in the box seat and he was travelling. “I think he was always going to win from the 600m mark.”

Race 6 — Benchmark 65 Handicap (1900m) Binary for trainer Ryan and jockey Thompson (pictured) “He has been very impressive in his two starts here,” Ryan said. “The guy that had him before us, Kelly Schweida, is one of our best mates so we knew he would come up here well taken care of.”

Race 7 — Cairns Newmarket Open Quality Handicap (1400m) Peacock for trainer Diane Murphy and jockey Stanley “There were excuses at Townsville last start,” Stanley said. “Once Executed went to the front and I was one out one back at the 950m mark there, I was always pretty confident. “It is great to ride a winner for Diane.”
