Homes project in limbo

Builder of Defence houses in liquidation

- PETE MARTINELLI peter.martinelli@news.com.au

AN Edge Hill development including 10 defence houses has been left unfinished with the liquidation of builders MV Designer Homes.

The company owned by Mark Vukobraditvch, went into voluntary liquidation on August 2.

A general meeting of Vukobraditvch Enterprises Pty Ltd appointed BDO (NQ) as the company liquidator.

Published minutes of the meeting indicate that Mr Vukobraditvch was the chairman and company member present.

Todd Kelly of BDO confirmed MV Designer Homes was building homes for Defence Housing Australia at The Village Edge estate on Edge Court.

“We are working through the housing they still have on the go,” Mr Kelly said.

He said BDO would meet with creditors and the Queensland Building and Construction Commission this week.

He said all staff had been terminated.

All phone numbers listed for MV Designer Homes have also been disconnected.

The company was approached via email for comment.

DHA director Jan Mason said the defence housing body had contracted with an unnamed vendor to “acquire a number of 2-bedroom homes on completion in Edge Court.”

The properties were scheduled for handover to DHA in September 2018.

It is as yet unknown whether the houses will be completed as per the scheduled handover date.

“MV Designer Homes are building these homes under contract with the vendor,” Ms Mason said.

“DHA does not have a contract with MV Designer Homes, nor have we had any direct contact.

“DHA will continue to work with our vendor to determine any future course of action in relation to these properties.”

Ms Mason did not disclose the tenant waiting list for DHA properties, nor how many defence members live in DHA houses.

It is understood DHA buys properties from real estate vendors and then onsells them to investors.

MV Designer Homes won house of the year in the 2015 HIA-Pioneer North Queensland Cairns Housing Awards.
