Used lot buy paves the way for Westco
WESTCO Cairns has big plans rolling ahead with the purchase of the Australian Motors Group used-car lot on 261 Mulgrave Rd.
The now-closed family used car business signed over the lot to Westco on July 27, after two months of negotiation.
Westco principal dealer Chris King said they were now in expansion mode, with the newly purchased lot paving the way to create a brand new Mazda showroom.
“We will build a stand-alone Mazda facility, which will be built on site where we have our used car operation currently,” Mr King said.
“This new building will be three times the size of our current Mazda Showroom and will incorporate the latest visual technology to help our customers make that right decision in choosing the right vehicle for their driving needs.
“To accommodate this build we have purchased the Australian Motors Group site, which will become our new used car site going forward and branded as Westco Motors.”
Mr King said sales have been going up for the Mazda and Volkswagen brands, hence the decision to open a new showroom.
In addition to the new Mazda showroom, the company is also looking at ramping up its car servicing facilities.
“We will also incorporate a drive-through undercover service drop-off right beside our showroom for the ease of our service customers,” Mr King said.
“Also we have purchased two new workshops to accommodate our Nissan workshop in one and Volkswagen workshop in the other, so they will become dedicated workshops for these two growing franchises and offer our customers a state-of-the-art service facility.
“We are also in the process of building a full detailing complex where our customers’ cars will be treated to the latest automatic laser car wash machine to achieve the best service experience we can offer.”
The time frame for the development of the new projects is unknown, though Mr King said the plans were projected for the next two years.
CBRE managing director Danny Betros, who represented Australian Motors Group in the sale, said they had approached Westco about the deal in February.
