Tourists seek out signs

-

AS a recent visitor to Cairns it was nice to see the Visitor Information sign on the way in, only to see that was the one, and only one.

On the way up from our home we found an information sign that led us to the very helpful people who could give us the information we required in each and every major town we drove through.

Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Sarina, Mackay, Ayr and Townsville, all of these places were nice and easy to find through signage.

Is there a reason Cairns is so blind to the needs of tourists? Why no independent information kiosk in Cairns?

Surely you would want tourists to be able to move about the city and enjoy all the salient features. Gary Morgan, Glan Devon road builders: now we do as they say to get the grant money.

The Diggers Bridge at the Mowbray does not need some rule applied about a Bruce Highway grade straight approach.

Who wanted to rush that lovely little, rural bliss bit, anyway?

And as for the tidal versus riverine zoning nonsense, well, it only takes so long in government before leaders start thinking like bureaucrats. Thank goodness for elections. By the way, the Diggers they named that bridge after were not made by a Caterpillar. Rod Davis, Port Douglas

Most of us simply wouldn’t tolerate a $5 light bulb that flickered on and off without notice. That, however, is what Walkamin’s new $380-million power station will do.

This expensive-but-unreliable power station wasn’t demanded by Australian taxpayers, voters or electricity users – it was mandated by the UN and implemented by our quisling politicians.

We’ve never had more incompetent, illogical, irrational and destructive politicians than right now. Peter Campion, Tolga
