TAKING EXERCISE TO NEXT LEVEL WITH WORKOUTS FOR THE BRAIN

- DANAELLA WIVELL

ROBERT Gronbeck is determined to change the concept of going to the gym.

The owner and founder of The Brain Room is taking exercise to the next level by introducing workouts for the brain. The exercises work to improve concentration and emotional stability.

The business is the first of its kind in Australia, and operates out of Your Fitness gym in Cairns City.

“Every part of the brain does a specific thing. We all have brains, and honing their different centres’ abilities is relevant to athletes or people in the corporate world or kids in schools,” he said.

The room features equipment such as a neurotracker to train brains to focus, as well as equipment to improve the brain’s reaction times.

“It’s not good enough to tell someone they need to focus more. That’s like telling somebody they need to be less overweight,” Mr Gronbeck said.

“You need to do some training and coaching to progress.

“At first when people come into the room they tell me they could never do what I’ve asked them to do, but at the end of it they can do it.

“It’s about asking them what else they think they can’t do, and showing them that they can do it.

“You don’t leave your strength in the gym, and you don’t leave your focus in The Brain Room.

“You take it with you into your day-to-day life.”
