ADELAIDE United has further bolstered its A-League squad with the signing of former World Cup Socceroo Ben Halloran.

The 26-year-old has penned a two-season deal with the Reds after cutting short his stint with Japanese outfit V-Varen Nagasaki earlier this year.

Halloran featured in all three of Australia’s matches at the 2014 World Cup under Ange Postecoglou but dropped off the international radar not long afterwards.

The Cairns-born winger burst on to the A-League scene with Gold Coast United in 2011-12 — the club’s last season before it was shut down by Football Federation Australia after a wrangle with owner Clive Palmer.

Halloran subsequently shifted to Brisbane Roar, then earned a move to Germany where he spent five seasons in total with second-tier sides Fortuna Dusseldorf and Heidenheim.

“It feels great to be joining Adelaide United,” Halloran said.

“I’m keen to be back in the A-League and the Aussie camaraderie and mateship that’s within an Aussie team is very unique. I’m looking forward to being part of that again.

“Coming back to Australia I’d have to say I’m a more well-rounded footballer and playing in Germany and playing in Japan they’re both quite high levels, which helps a lot.”

Adelaide coach Marco Kurz was delighted with his capture of Halloran, a versatile attacker who can play out wide, centrally or up front if required.

“We’re excited to see what Ben will bring to our team,” he said.

“I’m confident he will be another good fit.”
