On Thursday 31 July 2018 at Stratford Bowls Club, the mixed Club teams saw the included scores for two games resulting with Rob Moody/Mick Bucklar and Ashley White winning the days events (16)points. Runners up team consisted of J. Muir, B Howe and J. Rilley with 15 Points. No Jackpot. Raffle winner: John. Rilley. MENS CLUB CALLED GAMES EVENTS. A record thirty six players enjoyed their social mixed bowls under pleasant playing conditions last Monday. We saw a few returning members as well. Winners were Rosemary Stevens, Di Haywood and Gilly. Our game commences at 1.30pm on Monday and lasts three hours. Cards are called at 1.15pm. Names are required to be advised to our selector Rosemary before 1.00pm either by phone 0409624623 or can be recorded on the sheet at West Cairns Bowls Club clubhouse. We request that any new player who is playing for the first time to advise their preferred playing position to help with the selection. All games are played in a non-competitive manner. The sole competition match on Saturday was an entertaining affair with M.Craggs and J.Gellatly winning the last two ends of their pairs match against R.Rees and J.Manders to gain victory 20/19. Ric Rees in particular did well for a relative newcomer to the sport. It has also been a pleasure to have the Cairns club finalising some competition matches on our green after their recent dramas. Friday evening Scroungers saw John Radalj victorious and Peter Angus runner-up. Sunday morning’s Westco Motors Volkswagen Bowls had to be closed off at 64 players. It is essential to nominate early. The winning team consisted of Rod Hooper, Rod Boundy, Mumbles and MJ. Fatnowna. Young MJ excelled as skip and also has a bright future. 2nd, Tom Gallagher, Jim Hope, Norm Kehrer, Ernie Harris. The lucky money back card went to Gary Burkett’s team and Leon Archer picked up next week’s free game. The jackpot was not won and with the numbers playing on a Sunday, increases significantly each week. A reminder that lunch is now available from the restaurant Wednesday to Saturday, 1pm to 3 pm. On Thursday we had 35 bowlers for social bowls. The winners on the day were G.Anderson, G.Harvey, F.Gaukroger, T.Kerrigan. On Saturday it was good to see 20 bowlers enjoying a social game. One competition game in the Mixed Pairs was played on Sunday morning. S.Pagano, H.Paterson defeated E.Hamann, S.Howe. Some competition games are yet to be played.
