Win just Wright medicine

- JORDAN GERRANS

AFTER recent heart surgery, trainer Lyle Wright could do with a winner.

The Ooralea-based Wright did not travel north to Cluden Park yesterday, recovering at home, as his staff took three of his stable to Townsville.

The veteran trainer had heart surgery in Townsville almost a month ago and was released from hospital two weeks ago. His recent medical troubles were almost forgotten yesterday afternoon as Allround Glory claimed win number three from his last five starts.

Guided by stable apprentice Adam Spinks, the four-yearold gelding scored by half a length in the $14,000 Open Handicap (1000m).

The Rick Nelson-trained Rapt In Rumba set a cracking pace, as Allround Glory sat second, before the Wright runner took over from the 200m mark onwards.

“He has always struggled to get more than 1100m,” Wright said. “I am glad Adam let the horse go instead of attacking him to get to the front.

“He has only just gone four years old and maybe he can get to the 1100-1200m next prep. “He is a big strong horse.” Meanwhile, Tablelands jockey Wanderson D’Avila was dislodged from his mount during the first race yesterday.

He was transported to hospital with a suspected left wrist break and soreness around his head.

D’Avila was riding Once Were Warriors (trained by Cairns trainer Alwyn Bailey) who died of natural causes during the race.
