Social bowls as usual.Ladies please keep checking the white board for any up and coming games. 36 bowlers engaged in mixed social bowls on the West Cairns green last Monday with Col Koppen, Pat Burke and Tominko Ichise being the winners. Numbers playing have increased over the past months now the weather is more pleasant as it is covered from the elements. Any registered lawn bowler, local or visiting can join us simply by contacting our selector Rosemary on 0409624623 before 1.00pm, or by adding their name on the sheet available at the club. We ask any player who has played with us before to advise their preferred playing position to help the selectors. Cards are called at 1.15pm when all players should be present prior to the commencement of three hours play from 1.30pm. Afternoon tea is included in the green fee. A note to Nev - even I barracked for Collingwood this week. 4th L Anderson, A Will, J Arnold & E Smith 2 wins plus 10. Friday, Saturday and Sunday was the Mossman Sugar Festival Bowls Carnival. Saturday was mixed with a team from Marlin Coast being the winners. And a very creditable 2nd was John and Lesley Anderson, Zena Girgenti and Chris Payne a great effort to you all and really good to see Zena playing well and I believe it was Chris’s first time as skip. Sunday was the mens day with Yungaburra’s T White, J Beu, T Gray & A Hogan winning with 4 wins plus 40 shots. 2nd C Payne, B Smith, B Hando & G Tyrer 4 wins plus 35. 3rd R Pitt, R Ashford, P Busch & M Frese 3 wins plus 45. Congratulation to the formidable team from Yungaburra,with an outstanding performance. Silkwood lost -56 points to Yungaburra+85 points,but the friendship between the 42 bowlers could not be shaken. Thank you to members and friends who contributed in any way. A very big thank you to those who attended the afternoon, I believe our ladies committee ensured everyone went home with at least one prize. A club triples game came down to the last bowl with L.Hotker, S.Wilson, B.Berger defeating B.Myles, R.Boundy, M.J. Fatnowna 21/20.The other competition match on the day resulted in K.Richardson, M.Lynch, A.Radford defeating A.Paraha, P.Fallon, J.Gellatly 18/11. Tuesday’s NewsXpress Edge Hill triples went to Tom Gallagher, Bernie Hickman and Jim Duffield. Runners up were Steve Wilson, Chippy and Terry Mawer. Thirsty Thursday’s highlight was an outstanding effort by Victorian visitor Graham Coverdale equaling a long standing club record. It’s not easing bowling four wrong bias in just an hour’s play. Other standouts were Doug Lawrence and Barry Armstrong. Friday evening Scroungers Singles resulted in victory to veteran Des Aumuller. Gabby Billik continues to improve and claimed second. Westco Motors Volkswagen Sunday morning saw yet another win to Mick Ford, Mark Sloper, Bill Gill and Johnno Johnston. The computer ratings have been adjusted accordingly and tougher matches can be anticipated. 2nd prize went to PatPue, Mac Smith and Gary Burkett. Money back lucky card was won by Chris Ballantyne, Rod Hooper and Mumbles. The free game for next week was claimed by project manager Terry Mawer. Programme, Monday arvo, TPI social mixed. Bragging rights went to Don Lowe, S.Pagano, V.McAvoy. Next Thursday we will attempt to ring the bell at 5 o’clock to cater for those who have to travel. To help the selectors we ask that names be in by 12.30 so that teams can be selected prior to the Annual Meeting starting at 1.00 pm. We ask everyone to be early so that we have the numbers for a quorum and commence the meeting on time. Nominations for all positions have been received, so don’t be afraid of landing a job.We need you there to vote in your preferences. Men’s Pairs: I.Humphries, N.Morris defeated S.Dunne, G.Edgerton in a very close game that was only won on the last end.
