Time off to bake our own pizza

By Riley O’Sullivan and Thomas Gall, Year 7, St Augustine’s College

DURING week four of term three, the whole of St Augustine’s College had an unusual time off normal classes.

This was activities week, and it sure lived up to its name.

Year 7 boys participated in activities from pizza making to revision math tests.

Years 8, 10 and 11 went on their school camps and retreats and participated in other activities back at school.

Year 12 students studied for upcoming exams and had workshops about various topics including driver safety.

All students enjoyed their week, and the Year 7 group, who had never experienced it, were surprised and excited.

With a large portion of the staff and students away on their camps, it was a very different week of school.

Many of the Year 7 boys said this was one of the best weeks of the school year because we got to bake pizza, read books in the Gildas and practise our touch typing.

We had to make the pizza dough and knead it to make it ready for baking and we topped it with ham cheese and, sadly, pineapple.

Then it was time to do the hard yards and clean up the kitchen stations.

We enjoyed the moment it came out of the oven and was cut up ready to eat.

Our Italian exchange student said that our pizza was cooked well.

We had time to work on our English assessment and we also did some maths activities and the best thing of all we did all of this in our house teams.

This gave us the opportunity to get to know some of the boys that we don’t really know well and we thought about who our house captains might be in 2023 when we get to Year 12.

This week was one of the best.
