Susie scales inspiring heights for Nepal Mission

-

THE trip of a lifetime has turned into a photographic exhibition for a Tablelands woman.

Last year, Susie Armytage from Tolga spent 18 days in Nepal with Yungaburra couple Digby and Anne Hoyal.

The Hoyals have spent the past two decades supporting disadvantaged and orphaned children and in recent years have helped build a home for disabled and blind Nepalis.

“They are a most wonderful and inspiring couple who have been devoted missionaries in Tansen, Western Nepal, for the past 20 years,” Susie says.

“I saw first-hand all their wonderful successes of built orphanages – a home for disabled and blind children.

“Their greatest achievement has been the education of nearly 200 children, especially girls,” she says.

“I met past orphans who are now studying at university and nursing school.”

Susie’s trip resulted in an exhibition of 42 photographs which show a slice of life in Nepal, a mountainous region sandwiched between Asian giants India and China.

It also shows the work of Nepali Family Inc, the charity started by the Hoyals. Nepal Mission is on at the Old Post Office Gallery, Herberton Rd, Atherton until Saturday, September 29. To find out more about Nepali Family Inc, visit www.nepalifamily.org.au online.
