Nine clubs fight it out in action-packed finals
IN the three grades of this weekend’s CDRL finals, nine of the 11 clubs will feature in a great show of the spread of talent across the competition.
It is unfortunate that some of the competition’s best players will not be able to take the field due to qualification rules, and hopefully this will be revisited during the off-season.
Those that have taken the field this finals series have put on a show, however, with the Sharks scoring one of the alltime tries which featured close to 20 passes and a kick.
For those bored with the same overly-structured style of play in the NRL, get down to Barlow Park this weekend to catch Mossman in action.
■ Unfortunately, the Pride’s season ended at the weekend when dispatched by Easts.
Despite taking the field in form and in front of the season’s largest crowd, fans were left stunned as Easts exploded to lead 20-0 at half time.
The scoreline reinforces the quality of the competition and that if a team is even a little off their best then the opposition can rack up a score in no time. Still, semi-finalist is a fitting reward for the club for a season in which they surprised all but their inner-sanctum.
■ The game farewelled a legend last week as Johnathan Thurston played his final game. Despite his multitude of records and accomplishments, his greatest attribute required zero skill and is the one thing every budding athlete must harness – competitiveness.
JT was driven to become the greatest we’ve ever seen.
