On Justin Smith

-

Columnist Justin Smith (CP, 6/9) wants a revolution so we become a republic, but not like the one Pirate Pete FitzSimons wants. The US system has proven the most resistant to failure so let’s adopt it rather than reinvent the wheel. Scotty, Gordonvale Columnist Justin Smith you nailed it. We have a Senate full of minor players in on a few votes by default. Out of touch judges that can’t be sacked. A failed judicial system. Federal and state politicians unemployable outside politics. A public service full of non-achievers. A country that is broke and in denial. What do we want? We want our Australia back. Don. Earlville on top of appearing previously for a breach. When are the courts going to take a tougher stance and protect women? Beth, Kanimbla So the Australian economy is firing up, according to the new treasurer. I don’t suppose it would have anything to do with all of those tax returns being spent, would it? Kevin, Cairns North Graeme (CP, 6/9) go to the dog’s owner. I got a complaint about my dog barking. I put a letter into all surrounding letterboxes asking them to let me know if my dog was upsetting them. If so, I would do something about it. All I got back was no, the dog was no trouble to them. It’s the owner’s responsibility not the council or RSPCA. Doreen, Earlville. As someone fast approaching 60 years old, this nonsense about retirement age changes are scary. Anyone who has been physically working or in a stressful job cannot last for ever to keep paying the social welfare bill we have in this country. Too many parasites on the public purse. Darryl, Tablelands Yet another overtaking lane is taken away from the Kuranda Range road. The traffic increases year by year along with congestion and the decision is made to make it worse by reducing overtaking opportunities. Who makes these decisions? Andrew, Kuranda Instead of a beaches’ bike path make it a scenic drive. Think how tourism would benefit and get the Sunday drivers off the highway. David, Holloways Beach Wow, looks like wind and solar are really taking off. They now supply 3.6 per cent of the world’s electricity. Greg, Cairns CBD Why does our country pander to all this political correctness tripe? Especially bending over backwards for suspect newcomers changing our way of life. Hey how about we do what many other countries do and that’s fit in or leave. Icarus, Atherton The difference between intelligence and smart. Intelligence is knowledge and smart is the ability to use it wisely. Matchett, Cairns Re SB (CP, 6/9). Speed signs advise slowing when approaching a roundabout. I’d rather a car slowed and checked the road was clear than hooning in playing Russian roulette. Fran. Woree
