Friday, September 21: Mixed barefoot bowls. Names in by 6pm. Everyone invited. On Thursday, Sam Pagano provided the trophies for the afternoon. Thirty-three players enjoyed the contest with the team of T Burns, R Maguire and J Messina taking out the first prize. Runners-up were S Howe, S Pagano and P Hemmingway. Thanks Sam for providing the added incentive to the social afternoon. Graham Anderson has volunteere­d to provide the same next Thursday so come along to collect your share. On Saturday, we had 16 players enjoying social bowls. Bragging rights went to M Lynn, G Kirkman and T Perkins. A number of competitio­n games were played. Final club pairs: I Humphries and N Morris defeated J Morrison and J Fossey. In the consistenc­y singles, S Pagano defeated G Anderson, L Stevenson defeated S Clark, M Clifford defeated B Anderson and A Windsor defeated S Micale. In the club triples, J Morrison, G Edgerton and J Walker defeated I Humphries, L Fedalto and M Auchello. Please get those competitio­n games already called played as soon as possible. Check the board to see if your game has been called. Coming events: The annual meeting and election of office bearers to the board of Innisfail Bowls Club will be on Saturday, October 15 at 10am. All financial members of both the men’s and women’s club are requested to attend this important meeting. November 3/4: Innisfail/South Johnstone Carnival of Bowls two-bowl triples. Nomination­s to be placed on the board in the clubhouse. Wednesday, September 5: Fourteen people enjoyed a lovely afternoon of social bowls. Glen Harvey, Carol Lowe and Lee Mayell d Bill Williams, Jan Harvey and Bob Pelchem 27-14. Denise Charman and Barry Althorpe d Alan Hudson and Kerrie Donovan 30-12. Denis Donovan and Karin Rastoll d Barry Green and Ron Mathews 26-18. Saturday, September 8: Some 56 bowlers in 14 teams from as far away as Ingham and Cairns competed for some very attractive prize money at our annual event, the Silkwood Classic. Our sponsor this year was the Weipa Bowls Club who we wish to thank for their generosity. Three games of 16 ends tested the endurance of all bowlers, but good weather and good food made it enjoyable. The winning team of Tim Kerrigan, John Zaini, Roy McCarthy and Shane McInerey representi­ng South Johnstone Bowls Club won all 3 games +17 points. The runner-up team was an all-female representa­tion from different clubs and congratula­tions go to Dareyle Hester, Annette Evans, Judy Rick and Terry McAlary who won 2 games +10 points. Team S Cotton with K Wegert, N Beaccaria and J Leonardi came third. Fred Caltabiano’s team came fourth. Sunday, September 9: Ten bowlers managed to turn up for social bowls despite the exhausting games the day before. Denise Charman, Jeannette Bucklar and Wayne Mayell d Jean Messina, Barry Green and Bob Pelchen 27-11. Alan Hudson and Karin Rastoll d Carol Lowe and Lee Mayell 23-22. Friday night barefoot bowling and barbecue begins at 6pm. It’s enormous fun so come along and try it. All are welcome. Friday evening’s Scroungers competitio­n saw Margaret take the honours with John the runner up. Westco Motors Volkswagen. Sunday morning resulted in Larry Kiernan, Mike Ireland and Trevor Horne being deserved winners. Second prize to Royston, Rob Moody, Maurice Hetherton and Barry Hare. Gary Burkett’s team won the money back lucky card and Bruce McGilvray won next week’s free game. The club restaraunt operates Tuesday to Saturday evenings with Jim Sackley and Lachie providing live music on Friday nights. We open for lunch Wednesday to Saturdays. Raffles and members draws on Wednesday and Friday evenings. The men’s AGM is at 9.30 this Saturday followed by the club AGM at 10am. Last Monday we had thirty bowlers present including one Mackay North member and a local returning member. Winners were Val Fallon, Mick Ford and Max Harker. The weather stayed fine for us for the whole afternoon. We encourage any registered bowler who wishes to have an enjoyable afternoon under a covered carpet green to come and visit us for a 1.30pm start for three hours of mixed social bowls on any Monday. Please advise your intentions by phone on 0409624623 before 1.00pm and advise your preferred playing position if you have not played with us before. A sheet is also available at the club house. We remind all players that cards are called at 1.15pm and all players should be present at that time. The next committee meeting will be held next Monday, starting at 11.30am.
