A CHINESE reality TV show with an audience of 50 million has shot an episode on the banks of the Barron River at Kuranda at the weekend.

In partnership with Tourism Events Queensland, Tourism Tropical North Queensland and Kuranda Tourism, the Little Grand Tour episode will be streamed through the hugely popular online channel Tencent Video.

Director Calvin Fu said the team was attracted to the wide array of beautiful outdoor locations around Cairns and the region’s wildlife.

“Cairns is very natural. It is a small city but you have rainforest and animals, you have nice views and the weather is good,” he said. “This place is very dynamic and different.”

Little Grand Tour is an outdoor reality show featuring three celebrity teachers and six children as they travel to different places and go on missions such as outdoor survival and undersea exploration.

Other episodes have been filmed in the UK, Sanya, Hong Kong, Singapore, Yunnan and Xinjiang.

Executive officer of Kur- anda Tourism Kahlia Pepper told the Cairns Post the show offered great exposure for Kuranda and the Far North as a potential destination for Chinese travellers.

“These reality TV shows are very important for our region,” she said.

“It creates exposure but also they provide incentives to the Chinese market to come here and see how beautiful and natural the area is.”

Ms Pepper said the cast and crew spent a lot in Kuranda and Cairns on accommodation, catering and local tours.

The Kuranda episode will air on the Tencent Video network at the end of October.
