Tech to dominate emerging jobs

-

TECH-heavy roles have dominated Australia’s emerging jobs for 2018.

LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network, analysed millions of user-input job titles from the last five years to find the jobs critical for Australian business.

The 2018 Emerging Jobs Report revealed that the top five most in-demand roles are customer success manager, data scientist, full stack engineer, cyber security expert and experience designer.

Peter Sparkes, senior director of Cyber Security Services at Symantec, which provides cybersecurity software and services, said with the volume of high-threat cyber security attacks growing year on year, it was no surprise cyber security experts had been named one of the top emerging jobs in Australia this year.

“In fact, as an industry, with threats rising, we are facing a global shortage of cyber security experts and, according to a study by Frost and Sullivan, the global cyber security workforce will be short by approximately 1.8 million people in the next five years,” Mr Sparkes said.

“For consumers sharing more personal data with businesses than ever before, and with growing expectations on businesses to protect these, the widening skills gap will become harder to ignore.”

Last year, Symantec’s annual “Internet Security Threat” report found that Australia ranked eighth in Asia Pacific and Japan for overall cyber security threats.

Senior director Jason Laufer said the top five emerging jobs were all in high demand.
