Question values

I WAS disconcerted to note that the death of a croc in captivity from old age was worth much more media time on radio and TV than the news that finally, after years of disappointments, there was approval by Douglas Shire Council for another dog and cat refuge and boarding kennels (Paws & Claws) at Craiglie Industrial Estate.

Fought for and purchased by a small committee of animal lovers, when up and running, it will take some pressure off other facilities.

Are we reverting to the ancients in worshipping sometimes deadly animals and sacrificing the occasional human life to them?

Dogs especially, referred to as “man’s best friend” who guard premises, roundup cattle and sheep, guide disabled people, catch criminals, search out drugs, guns, bombs etc, provide companionship and love for young and old alike, and ask so little in return, are being destroyed in far too large numbers by authorities.

The only sin of these lost abandoned mutts is existing.

I am so very sad for them, whereas the lethal croc is comfortably transported to a new habitat at taxpayers’ expense. Is this right?

Please think a little and question our values.

Paws & Claws have a website and will need all the help it can get from both media and public to be able to turn this site into a state of the art, happy refuge.

Crocs appear to have this already. Please let’s get priorities right. Jenny Lott, Julatten, vice president of Paws & Claws
