Floyd has Power to change everything

- JORDAN GERRANS

THE Floyd name is synonymous with the Pyramid Power Football Club and skipper Danny Floyd cannot be more proud to lead his club out on grand final day.

The small team of volunteers who run the Gordonvalebased club, led by Danny’s parents Jim and Marie Floyd, will be on hand tomorrow afternoon to see their fledgling AFL Cairns club run out on to the biggest stage in Far North footy.

The club have won premierships in junior grades in their history but this Saturday against Port Douglas in the reserves decider will be their first opportunity to claim senior silverware.

The talented Floyd has the ability to step up and play in the seniors competition but has stayed loyal to his Power in the reserves since their inception into the league.

“I have dug deep through all the good and bad times at the club,” Floyd said.

“We are going to the grand final now.

“We are all family and I am super proud to captain this club into a grand final and hopefully that can end in a premiership.

“Port Douglas are a very good side and we just need to focus on applying pressure to the ball carrier.”

Floyd says first-year coach Mark Motlop has provided plenty of knowledge and guidance for the inexperienced Power squad.

“The boys look at him as a role model and a mentor,” Floyd said.

“He has brought a bit of structure that we sort of lacked at the start. He has been awesome for us.”
