Irresponsible and wasteful
CAIRNS Regional Council has finally seen fit to make public its amended plan for Holloways Beach redevelopment public, one day before voting on its approval. Work will commence within three weeks. There has been no public consultation regarding the amendments, the first time the public could see the new plan, was on Friday on the council website.
This does not seem like the act of a transparent and inclusive local government to me. In your article (CP, 25/9) you interviewed two people from out of suburb who are pleased about the idea.
While the 2400 residents at Holloways are happy to share the beach with all of Cairns I feel we have been intentionally excluded from information until it was too late for any local input.
On the erosion problem I fear that the $2.9m to be spent on the foreshore is a waste of taxpayers/ratepayers’ money.
Spending money on the foreshore without first addressing the erosion problem is irresponsible and wasteful.
With the high tides around full moon and new moon the beach and esplanade is eroding away on a regular basis.
The council says if the development is damaged by erosion we will repair it.
