CHILDREN across Cairns have one week left to soak up the school holidays and take advantage of the countless activities on offer.

The city has come to life over the break, including the popular Muddy’s playground.

The splash playground and parkland has been a hive of activity over the past week with hundreds of kids enjoying the facility each day.

Open every day between 9am and 7pm, Muddy’s includes water play areas plus a flying fox, sound chimes, track ride, rope bridge, slides, mouse wheels, play houses, story telling areas, a seesaw, trick track and puzzle games.

“It’s been really good throughout the school holidays, lots of people around,” Muddy’s manager Naomi Lennon said.

“It’s not normally this busy, normally the June/July holidays are the busier ones but it’s surprising us every time.

“There’d be hundreds of kids out here every day and I think the parents love it just as much.

“There’s not many water facilities like this that are free so I think that’s a big drawcard.”

The Cairns Regional Council libraries are also offering a jam-packed schedule of activities for children and families to enjoy before school resumes next week.

With everything from creative writing workshops to puppet making, robotics and story time, there’s a different activity on each day throughout the week.

Visit the Cairns Regional Council website for a full list.

Shopping centres are also taking advantage of the school break, hosting a range of different activities for children until this Friday.

Mt Sheridan Plaza will host cookie and doughnut decorating sessions throughout the week from 10am-2pm, and DFO Cairns will host the Old Macdonald’s Travelling Farm this week.

Cairns Art Gallery will also be running workshops for creative kids. Visit cairnsartgallery.com.au for more details.
