EVIDENCE against a man extradited to Cairns over an alleged 2014 stabbing at Westcourt will be presented to his defence lawyers by late November.

Terry Van Gulik and Benjamin Lewis Evans both stand charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, attempted robbery, entering a dwelling with intent, unlawful wounding and kidnapping for ransom.

The pair have been remanded in custody over the charges and did not appear at the criminal call-over in Cairns Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Senior Queensland Police Service prosecutor Sgt Susan Miles told the court a brief of evidence was being prepared against Mr Van Gulik.

Magistrate Joe Pinder ordered the evidence be disclosed to the defence team by November 21.

The matter against Mr Van Gulik and his co accused, Mr Evans, was adjourned for committal mention on December 12.

The two men were arrested following an appeal for public information by Cairns Police.

Mr Van Gulik, 42, of NSW, was extradited to Cairns on May 16, in relation to the alleged stabbing of a 60-year-old Westcourt man four years ago.

Operation Mike Tesani was launched after the 60-year-old father was allegedly stabbed four times at his Westcourt backyard on Curtin St on October 9, 2014, and his 12-yearold son had a knife held to his throat.

The 60-year-old was treated at the scene and taken by ambulance to Cairns Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

In February this year police reopened investigations into the violent daylight attack.

Police released CCTV footage of two men suspected to have been involved in the assault in May.

It was hoped the footage would galvanise the public to help catch the suspects.

The footage showed the direction the alleged suspects ran following the attack.
