CHAZ, 5, and Scarlet Kelly, 8, are ready to go back to kindergarten and school this morning for the final term of the year. The brother and sister return to Goodstart Early Learning, Bayview Heights, and St Gerard Majella School, Woree, as kids all over the Far North head to class for the start of term four.

STUDENTS across the Far North will return to the classroom today for the final term of the 2018 school year.

While it nears the end for Year 12 students, others have just begun their education journeys.

And to ensure students remain safe, Sergeant Cary Coolican reminded motorists that the all-important school zones will back in force across the Far North from today.

Police will be performing high-visibility patrols in school zones paying close attention to speed, parking, “stop drop and go” zones and pedestrian crossings to ensure all children stay safe on the roads.

“Motorists are reminded that the 40km/h school zones will operate from 7am to 9am and again from 2pm to 4pm across the Far North,” Sgt Coolican said.

“There are a few exceptions – Caravonica Primary School on the Kamerunga Western Arterial Road, Caravonica is a 60km/h zone for those times, and St Augustine’s College on Scott St, Parramatta Park between Severin and Draper streets is a 40km/h zone all day from 7am to 4pm as students frequently cross for classes.”

Sgt Coolican also reminded people that the stop, drop and go zones are designed to drop off or collect only – and drivers were not allowed to park.

“My tip of the day is simple, give yourself and your children an extra 15 minutes to get ready and back into routine for the school drop-off,” she said.

“Slow down, stick to the road rules, pay attention to parking signage and stay alert for the unexpected.”
