Join Allan and save the RSL

-

THERE are few things as sad as a town losing its RSL club.

Innisfail is facing that possibility with the club struggling to stay afloat amid ever-increasing electricity prices and wages, and a general lack of bums on seats.

The RSL’s treasurer Allan Scott has gone out on his own to tell the public about the Innisfail club’s plight – and has earned himself a slap on the wrist for his trouble.

His flyer leaves no doubt about the weight of the situation.

“We are very close to having to pay off all of our staff and locking the doors,” it reads This cannot be allowed to happen. An RSL is a spiritual home for so many living veterans, the ones who came before them and the ones who will inevitably follow. It is the place where everybody meets up on Anzac Day to pay their respects to those men and women who gave their lives in war to secure our freedom.

It is also an awesome place to have a beer and some good, honest pub fare away from the heavy bass thudding of a nightclub or the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Clubs like the Innisfail RSL – and it is by no means the only one in the region doing it tough – need some support.

They need assistance with ridiculous spiralling costs, but most of all they just need people to come in and spend a few dollars having a good time with their mates.

Mr Scott might get in a bit of strife for going public, but good on him.

He did it out of the goodness of his heart and his genuine concern for what is a vital piece of Far North Queensland’s history and culture.
