Race 1 — QTIS Maiden Plate (1100m) Rothstock’n’Bella for trainer Ray Moller and jockey Kerry Rockett “Ray is a great trainer – he does not say much but he is a great trainer and has done an excellent job with the horse,” owner John Piccone said. “It was a great ride from Kerry Rockett, it is good to have the Rockett on board.” Race 2 — Class B Handicap (1100m) Watch Me Dazzle Em for trainer Leanne Ashford and jockey Amanda Thomson “He had a few runs last time – he won a maiden at Townsville and went to Innisfail and put in a shocker,” owner George Ashford said. “We gave him a nice break. “He trialled well at Mareeba a couple of weeks back and I thought he could win today. “We will see how he pulls up but we will look at the program and find another race for him.” Race 3 — Benchmark 65 Handicap (1100m) The Bee’s Knees for trainer Scott Cooper and jockey Sonja Wiseman “Gordonvale is my home town so it is always good to get a winner here,” Wiseman said. “This will probably be my last meeting here before I move to Darwin next month. “I thought she would be a chance coming here today but as soon as I hit that corner, I knew it was won. “It is really good to come out here and get a win and hopefully I can get another in the Cup.” Race 4 — Benchmark 60 Handicap (1360m) Global Guru for trainer Lawrence Reys and jockey Masayuki Abe (pictured) “He just loves the track,” Reys said. “It is always good to win on your home track. “The horses are firing, I only have the two in work but they were both last start winners. “I took Magnormous to Townsville the other day. “He got beaten, but it was a good run under the circumstances. “I am happy.” Race 5 — Bill Dawson Memorial Gordonvale Cup Open Handicap (1800m) Try Me Dol for trainer Stephen Potiris and jockey Bonnie Thomson “I had a good run in transit, my instructions were to go back, not forward,” Thomson said. “She does not like the fence. “I got up to about fourth and sat off Jimmy Hoffa, the favourite, and got a really nice run on heals behind Sonja Wiseman and Bold Avenue and she peeled off, then she fought for the lead and off we went from there.”
