Ryan, Edge Hill. You and others are picking up the slack for other irresponsible owners who refuse to house their dogs properly, get them desexed and get out, breed with whatever they can find, leaving a large influx of unwanted pups. That again is left to ratepayers to fix the problem. Compulsory desexing and registering the owner, as well as the dog, and compulsory micro chipping. This will sort out who is serious about pet ownership and the responsibility that goes with it. Buzz, Mount Sheridan Now that the female tax has gone, do taxpayers stump up more for breast cancer cures? David, Holloways Beach The Canadian Government is housing refugees in hotels who are slaughtering goats in bathrooms. Trudeau, the prime minister, should be ashamed of himself. Shane, Kanimbla Thanks to the nice old man who gave me cat food at my place on Monday morning. There are still some nice people in this world. Janelle, Woree When you see a house covered in solar panels (CP, 8/10) you know the owner is happy for their poorer neighbours to subsidise their electricity. Businesses with solar panels are forcing their poorest customers to subsidise theirs. Charming, aye? Woz, Parramatta Park Stella Martin and Matt (CP, 8/10) simultaneously roll out the old fossil fuel subsidy myth. So here’s an idea. Let’s get rid of all subsidies in the energy sector and simply allow the most efficient and effective generators to deliver steady, reliable electricity at the best possible price. Mic, Cairns By “tax-based fossil fuel subsidies”, Matt (CP, 8/10) probably means “business input deductions”. Business people understand the difference, greenies don’t. Here’s the actual subsidy scale per megawatt-hour: solar 220, wind 80, other renewables 30 and coal 40 cents. Higgs, Tolga Peter Campion a classic Joh statement if you don’t agree with one expert get another one. Grey Ray, Holloways Beach So ice has infiltrated the ADF now. Beats me why judges keep handing down these slaps-on-the-wrist sentences to ice dealers. You would get more jail time for stealing a pushbike in some cases. Should be a mandatory 10 years at least. Andy, Herberton Warren Entsch may be able to cook a shepherd’s pie for his guest but all he can serve up to the people of Leichhardt is a dog’s breakfast. Jobsen Groath, Cairns
