A DECISION to bring some of the lightest running shoes to Cairns has put a spring in the step of a Manoora retailer.

The nearest outlet was at Townsville until Megan Thomas at Phyxme decided to bring them further north.

Physiotherapist Megan Thomas loves running and has a passion for treating athletes who like to jog.

When she became aware the On brand was not available to runners and triathletes of the Far North she saw an opportunity.

“After extensive research and extremely positive feedback from posts I had put on multiple running forums, I decided to bring these amazing shoes to PhyxMe Cairns,” Ms Thomas said.

On’s patented CloudTec technology is engineered to deliver runners a soft landing followed by an explosive takeoff.

Ms Thomas said the result was an unbelievably light running sensation.

And no compromise on cushioning and impact protection meant it felt like running on clouds, according to promotional material, she said.

Ms Thomas said the shoes were good for runners as well as gym-goers and people who work on their feet all day every day.

“PhyxMe’s staff are highly trained to know which On shoe is suited for which runner, walker, worker and which foot,” she said.

“What’s more, people can try them on, jog around the clinic or on our treadmill and ensure the shoe feels right for them, an element I think is extremely important.

“There are so many amazing and unique aspects to On runners and each shoe they have produced.”

Ms Thomas said the Swiss-engineered line of shoes offered the best protection against injury for athletes across all sports.

“There is research that suggests there is less load that goes through some of the lower limb tissue,” she said.

Ms Thomas said she had treated patients who were surprised at the ability of the shoe to aid in injury recovery.

“They have returned to their running because of these shoes, because of the stability that can offer,” she said.

“It has been a really big achievement for a lot of my patients.”

The range of Cloud running shoes cover all sports from everyday wear to crosstraining gym shoes, before getting on to the run-specific models which include trail runners and a flat track speed racer model, called the Cloudflash, which is now available at PhyxMe and endorsed by world champion ironman Javier Gomez.
