Camaraderie key as Fusion gear up for T20 Challenge
HALF a dozen cricketers from the Far North Fusion representative squad were put through their paces under the watchful of eye coach Wade Frazer on Sunday.
The Fusion will head to Mackay on October 19 for the annual Bulls Masters Country T20 Challenge. Frazer is hoping his side can book another grand final at the Gabba with a successful weekend.
“We were the best team in it last year and were red-hot in Mackay,” he said.
“Then by the time the Gabba match came around we were out of touch – it didn’t help it was held so close to Christmas and Boxing Day.”
The coach was hoping for a better turnout at Sunday’s net session at Walker Road in Edmonton, but remained confident he had enough talent in the squad to succeed.
“All those blokes are getting a hit on Saturday, so we don’t need to train too much,” he said. “It can just be about discussing tactics and building a bit of camaraderie. Rep cricket is not just about playing a higher level, it’s also about making new mates with players from other clubs.”
One player who looks to be in fine touch is wicketkeeperbatsman Dan Freebody.
The Norths star looked good in the nets and will replace former Fusion star Gerard Fox, who is now based in Weipa.
“I’m confident in all of our players to do their job,” Frazer said. “We know that if someone gets out cheaply that the next guy can make runs.”
