PASSENGERS departing Cairns can now enjoy plane spotting while relishing a preflight meal or cuppa.

Hudsons Coffee and a modern concept restaurant called The Crafty Cassowary Kitchen and Bar has opened at Cairns Airport’s international terminal.

The airport’s chief commercial officer of retail, transport and property Tracey Groves said for the first time at the international terminal, food and beverage in the departure lounge would come with a view money could not buy.

“Food and beverage in the international departures lounge has a new location by the airside windows featuring great views on to the airport apron, across the runway and beyond to the mountains,” she said.

“Our recent customer insights survey showed that passengers are looking for a more diverse food and beverage selection and that’s what the new outlets deliver for international travellers.

“We’re also delighted to welcome the global leader in airport food and beverage operation, Emirates Leisure Retail (Australia), a wholly owned subsidiary of the prestigious Emirates Group to Cairns Airport to operate the new outlets.”

ELRA operate in major airports in Australia including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

ELRA managing director Adam Summerville said the company was excited to deliver the new outlets for Cairns Airport.

“We see good passenger growth in Cairns, especially through the international terminal,” Mr Summerville said.

“The region abounds in a variety of fresh produce and we were keen to explore opportunities to include the very best of the delicious local flavours on our menus for people to experience and enjoy.

“The tastes of Tropical North Queensland include seafood, distinctive meats and of course a wonderful array of tropical fruits and vegetables.”

The Crafty Cassowary Kitchen and Bar will offer an extensive menu from salads and snacks to a full gourmet meal experience, including options for all the family and those with dietary restrictions.
