IF YOU have ever dreamt of enjoying a dinner in your own home without having to cook or do the dishes, then dream no more.

A Cairns-based start-up called Gathar, launched earlier this month, is connecting dinner party hosts with cooks using a digital online booking form.

Co-founder and chief executive Jodie Mlikota said the best way to get your head around the concept was to think of it as an Airbnb for cooks and food lovers.

She said the platform was on track for a national roll-out and Brisbane cooks had already signed up. From there, it is hoped Gathar will go international.

“It’s really exciting to roll it out in Cairns and then the world,” Ms Mlikota said.

“There is something really special about being at a dinner party at home and not having to worry about cooking.”

The website features cooks, their menus and how much meals cost per person.

Gathar is now on the hunt for cooks and chefs in Far North and South East Queensland to join the platform.

Menus range from $60-$125 per person and include a range of cuisines.

“We’ve also got a stack more platform features in the pipeline, but we are really happy with this first site release and excited to see it evolve now it’s in the hands of our marketplace community,” Ms Mlikota said.

The idea for Gathar came to the Cairns-based marketer because she loved having friends over for dinner but hated the hard work that came with it.

After pitching the idea at Brisbane Women’s Start-up Weekend in February, Ms Mlikota found herself on a plane to Paris to pitch Gathar in the global grand finals.

In 2019, the platform is expected to be rolled out nationally.

Gathar last week made the shortlist in the People’s Choice category of the Tropical North Queensland Innovation Awards.
