Getting a kick out of great trip

DURING the recent holidays there was a soccer cup held in Sydney — the Sydney International Cup.

There were so many teams, to be precise there were 79 clubs or academies, making 160 teams.

There were National Premier League teams from mainly around Sydney.

Caravella Football Academy travelled to Sydney as two teams, Under-8s and Under11s.

The Under-8s team included Cody Peters, Payton Rose, Peggy Ross, Phoenix Ross, Phoenix Dicarlo, Samuel Barber, Matty McWhinney, Harrison Neilson, Eli Mauro, Alex Savimaki and me, Hayley Campbell.

The under-11s team included my brother Connor Campbell, Zaviah DiCarlo, Flynn Adams, Ryan Ikeda, Charlie Irwin, Ari Savimaki, Kale Newconbe, Zane Lawson, Darby and Flynn Burness.

There were teams from as far away as China and from different parts of Australia.

Before our first games we were located into different pools, A, B, C or D.

In the Under-8s we were in Pool D and we had three different teams in our pool.

In the Under-8s pool there were Concord White, Dee Why FC, Soccer De Brazil and of course, Caravella Football Academy.

The Under-11s were in pool A. They played against Mongo Football, Northern Eagles, Hunter Valley Hawks, BSS Raiders and Woongarah FC.

Teams were graded into either cup, plate or shield.

Our Under-8s team came second, so we went into the cup, which was the highest grade and the Under-11s came fourth so they went into shield. Overall, the Under-8s came seventh and the Under11s came third in shield.

Our trip to Sydney was outstanding, because we achieved great results and we got to see other teams play away from Cairns.
