Educational focus of special week

-

STATE Education Week is an annual week celebrated by schools all over Australia. It presents an opportunity for schools to showcase Queensland state education through the theme of ‘Celebrating our Community’.

This year’s State Education Week will be held from Sunday, October 21, to Saturday, October 27. The Community Principal Program – an annual program that encourages state schools to invite a local community, business or sports leader to job shadow the principal for a day, or even a few hours – will be part of the State Education Week celebrations and will run from Monday to Friday, October 8-26.

The Community Principal can meet with students, staff and parents, participate in a special assembly, undertake tuckshop shifts and playground duties, for a first-hand glimpse to the challenges and highlights.

On Friday, October 26, Queensland state schools will recognise World Teachers’ Day and the 2018 Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools.

According to the Department of Education with the Queensland Government, State Education Week is “your chance to celebrate the unique qualities of your school and community. Photography, song, video, poetry – how will you tell your community story?” For more information about Queensland Education, visit: education.qld.gov.au WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY Walk into any classroom across the Far North, and you can appreciate the work that goes into educating your children. Teaching can be a tough gig. Show your teacher your appreciation with these simple ideas: • Bake them something: Biscuits, cake or rocky road. Anything they can enjoy with a cup of tea (or glass of wine). • A plant in a funky pot. • A framed picture of the teacher with their students. • A bottle of wine.
