Mareeba big man Baynes to miss Magic clash

-

BOSTON Celtics centre Aron Baynes is set to miss at least one NBA game with a hamstring injury while fans still await an update on fellow Australian star Ben Simmons’s back issue.

Boston have confirmed on Twitter that Baynes won’t play against Orlando on Tuesday (AEDT) due to a sore hamstring. The Mareeba big man started in the Celtics’ win over the New York Knicks on Sunday but left the game early in the second period and did not return.

“I don’t have any update on it,” Boston coach Brett Stevens said in his post-match press conference. “Hamstrings are scary to me.”

Baynes scored 10 points in 11 first-half minutes against the Knicks and has averaged 15 minutes per game early this season.

■ CAIRNS power forward Cayla George stuffed the stat sheet in Melbourne Boomers’ win over the Sydney Flames in the WNBL at the weekend.

Despite shooting just 4/17 from the field, George managed to tally nine points, nine rebounds and 10 assists in the 87-75 victory.

The Boomers travel to play the Canberra Capitals this Friday.

■ CAIRNS City Lions ruckman Liam Woodcock-Nolan has made his debut for the Tiwi Bombers in the NTFL at the weekend against Southern Districts.

The 202cm big man battled manfully for the Bombers, alongside former North Cairns Tigers Austin Wonaeamirri and Patrick Heenan in the side’s 13.13 (91) to 10.7 (67) loss at TIO Stadium. Fellow Lion Aaron Davey lined up for Palmerston in their 49-point win over Darwin Buffaloes.
