Family law pair find niche in local market
A DECISION to throw in stable jobs at Cairns’ most reputable law firms is beginning to pay off for two local legal professionals.
Today marks 100 days in business for Cairns Family Law Group co-founders Amalie Grima and Catherine Ross.
“Amalie and I were excited and nervous – we both left the security of our full-time jobs and stable incomes with well known local law firms and jumped into the unknown,” Ms Ross said.
“We literally started with zero clients and we were unsure PH: 07 4033 6944 where our first would come from.”
Ms Grima said the past few months had been the “happiest and most rewarding days of client our careers so far”. But wasn’t all smooth sailing.

“It is so important that you adapt and don’t get left behind,” Ms Ross said.
“As well, cash is king – this takes new meaning when you become a business owner. You have to stay on top of cash flow and your expenses.”
She also said it was important to provide old-fashioned customer service.
“Our vision is to bring a fresh approach to family law, to uplift clients and help them start their new beginning,” Ms Grima said.
“People are constantly telling us how happy we look and are loving the fresh approach that we are bringing to what people often describe as a difficult area of law. We have developed first hand a respect and understanding of how business owner’s feel about their businesses.”
The pair said the late Susan Thomson, a well-known family lawyer in the Cairns community, who both lawyers previously worked for, was their inspiration.
“She was a trendsetter, role model and utter genius. We remember her every day and want to make her proud,” Ms Ross said.
