Reid’s return Justin time
FORMER Queensland Country batsman Justin Reid could be propelled into the Far North Fusion line-up if he can get through Saturday’s club game for Mulgrave.
The representative star hasn’t played a match this season after breaking his foot while batting in a warm-up match.
The Toads will pick him to bat in the middle order against Atherton this Saturday.
“I’ve been hitting tennis balls for the past couple of weeks and I will hit the proper ball this week at training,” Reid said yesterday.
“I felt good. The boys have been playing well and the top order have been doing their job so I will come in and bat somewhere in the middle.”
Reid said he had spoken with Fusion coach Wade Frazer about playing in Mackay for the 50-over format next week, but had to get through Saturday first.
“It will depend on how I pull up, but there has been a discussion,” he said.
Frazer said Reid would be an invaluable addition to the representative side.
“He’s a classy batsman and we are going to need another experienced guy with Danny Parnell unavailable for the one-day matches,” Frazer said. “I don’t think we’d bat him at the top of the order, but he’d be a good player to have come in during those middle overs once the shine is off the ball.”
Parnell is one of three players unavailable for the next trip to Mackay, with Tom Boorman and all-rounder Brenton Edwards also absent.
Frazer said Rhys Camilleri from Rovers and Barron’s Jordan Fulton would come into the team.
