Guests fly in for country bash

- JANESSA EKERT

MORE than 100 dignitaries were flown from China, Hong Kong and Macau for the KURCow Barnwell Ranch opening.

Up to 450 guests – including Kewarra Beach mum Amanda Wheeler and her son Ben, 7 – celebrated the event, which chief operations officers Harry Sou said would be followed by a grand opening in the coming months.

“We loved the hay ride. They take you out on a hay ride to feed the cattle and learn about the cattle,” she said.

“It was a wonderful family day out.”

Mr Sou said KUR-Cow had already attracted several thousand visitors since it kicked off in August.

The cattle-based tourism venture for up to 300 people a day offers experiences including quad bikes, horse riding, tractor and trailer pull rides, horse and cart rides, cow milking and presentations on rural operations.

Mr Sou said so far the feedback had been very positive.

“Yesterday we just invited the people who’ve been helping to build this farm and some of the local business identities as well as private guests,” he said. “We will plan for another grand opening in the very near future.”

KUR-Cow is separate to the much bigger $650 million KUR-World eco mega resort, which is awaiting public feedback following the recent release of the Environmental Impact Statement.
