Tell us the plans for port
THE Port of Cairns has no official master plan for the working port because our governments do not consider our port as a “priority”.
As there is no official strategic master plan, that has been through formal processes and agreed to by port users and the Cairns public, how can the Member for Mulgrave, Curtis Pitt, announce any strategic future for the working port at the Edmonton State Development Area?
Is it a distraction from the viable solutions offered by Admiralty Island and East Trinity? Why is Mr Pitt intent on changing the existing status of the rail head infrastructure at the port, instead of improving it? What is going on with the Cairns Shipping Development Project? Is there something Ports North isn’t telling us?
Can Mr Pitt and the bureaucrats in the transport minister’s office please, be brave, tell us the truth about the real plans for the Port of Cairns, instead of sneaking around behind closed doors. Ron Crew, president, Cairns Port Development Inc. ships into port to help Cairns grow.
He agrees with shutting down ship building and maintenance companies actually on the water, by building a massive ship maintenance facility in the middle of nowhere, to not get the jobs that the current shipyards aren’t getting now.
