Back to nature on island trip
By Elyse O’Donnell and Gabriella Williams, Year 4, Our Lady Help of Christians
BEAUTIFUL blue skies and warm sunny weather made for the best excursion ever.
On October 19, the Year 4 students of Our Lady Help of Christians went to Fitzroy Island. We went there because we are doing lessons on marine turtles, sustainability, and in geography, we are learning about tropical environments.
On this day, the students had to arrive at Marlin Wharf at 7.30am.
We had to meet on the grass area in front of the restaurant Al Porto.
On this day the Year 4s had a very busy schedule.
The teachers had a lot planned for the students to do on this excursion.
Once the students got on the boat it was really cold thanks to the airconditioning.
On our way some of the students got sick but felt much better as soon as we got to the island.
When we arrived it was very hot (thankfully).
We got off the boat and headed straight to the campgrounds.
After morning tea all the groups and their staff did the Secret Garden walk.
We saw a heap of interesting plants. We pleasantly got to see a giant spider. Not. ISLAND ADVENTURE: Trinity Anglican School teacher Kellie Smart with Year 1 students Quinn Coates (back), Summer Gibson, Mrs Joylene McShane, Isabel du Plessis (in tree) and (left to right) Oscar Loveridge, Madeleine Springell, Beatrix Hard, Angus Holt, Lachlan Baker, William Morden, Mikayla MacFarlane, Jessica Hough, Lachlan Tonkin and Charlie McGrath.
The students were very excited for the glass bottom boat tour.
On the tour the marine specialist pointed out all the marine life.
We got lucky and also saw a turtle.
In conclusion it was a fantastic experience for all of the students and staff.
Even though it was quite tiring being on an island for almost a whole day, it was a wonderful excursion, probably one of the best.
