Hamstring niggle keeps Baynes off the court

-

MAREEBA’S Aron Baynes missed his third straight NBA game with a slight right hamstring strain on Sunday.

The bustling big man has been out of the Boston Celtics line-up for a short period of the recently commenced NBA season.

Baynes missed the Sunday game against his old club, Detroit.

Baynes’ teammates Jaylen Brown scored 19 points and Marcus Morris added 18 for the Boston Celtics in their 109-89 victory over the Pistons, who lost their first game of the season.

The Celtics face the same opposition on Wednesday, with the Far North centre a chance to return from injury.

■ PORT Douglas premiership ruckman Joshua Wilson led the Wanderers’ big man department in the NTFL but he could not get them across the line against Waratah on Saturday night.

The Eagles fell by 34-points to the Warriors at T1O Stadium. Wilson and his Eagles have only won a single game through the first month of the 2018-19 campaign.

Meanwhile, Southern Districts completed a quartet of wins to start the defence of their NTFL premiership when they destroyed a listless Palmerston at Fred’s Pass.

AFL Cairns pair Aaron Davey and Ezekiel Frank both missed the game for the Magpies.

■ CAIRNS’ Cayla George and her Melbourne Boomers fell to the University of Canberra Capitals in Round 3 of the WNBL.

George dropped 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the six-point defeat.

“We did a great job of sharing the ball (in the third term) and our shooters made shots,” George’s teammate Lindsay Allen said after the loss. The Boomers are 2-2 on the season.
